A motorcycle MOT checks lights, indicators, brakes, steering, suspension, wheels, tyres, exhaust and emissions, fuel system, frame and bodywork, and the horn. The tester will also verify that the registration plate is in good condition and clearly legible.
You don't need to bring any documents for a motorcycle MOT — just the bike itself. However, having your V5C logbook handy can help speed up the process. If your bike has a previous MOT certificate, that can be useful too but isn't required.
You can only ride a motorcycle without an MOT if you are riding directly to a pre-booked MOT appointment. Otherwise, riding without a valid MOT is illegal and can result in a fine of up to £1,000. Your insurance may also be invalid without a current MOT.
If your motorcycle fails the MOT and you leave it with us for the repairs, we offer a free partial retest on the items that failed. If you take the bike away and bring it back within 10 working days, only the failed items are retested. Give us a call on 0113 249 4049 to discuss your options.
